Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Flesh Eaters

    Allie-Oop — 21 years ago(November 14, 2004 08:23 PM)

I saw this film with my Dad and my brother one Saturday afternoon at the local movie theater when I was 8 years old - a long time ago. My father watched the film and laughed at all the horrible scenes. My brother boo'd the bad guy and yelled at the next victim to "watch out" - but they never did. Me, I covered my eyes with my hands in terror. I dreamt of the flesh-eating sea creatures flooding the streets up to my front door - leaving me stuck and stranded. That year I had trouble swimming in the lake on summer vacation and wouldn't go into the water until I was sure it was safe. Even though I knew then that the film was lame, I'd like to see it again. How funny it is that I remember the film that gave me nightmares in such an oddly endearing way.

      Cool.
I think I know the answer already, but I gotta ask.
Did the version you saw as an 8 year old, have the Nazi laboratories scenes in it, naked girl guinea pigs and all?

You know that chick in the bikini at the opening of the film was pretty sexy too. She looks pretty hot, in a modern kind of way, in that skimpy two-piece. She's probably a little old lady now!!

Yes, a reasonable observation. For the time, this would have been responded to something like a topless scene in a movie nowadays.
You may notice a fair amount of skin (rather tame by today's standards) in this movie, enough to make it interesting, particularly to male audiences of the day. I felt rather ambivalent about Rita Morley's jello-y cleavage in some of her wardrobe, but I found her secretary's decolletage in her push-up demi-bra quite sexy.
You may also note that future porn director Radley Metzger edited this pic (and did a fine job with what he had).

Back when I was in grade school, a girl let me borrow her copy of a Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine with The Flesh Eaters on the cover. Now, the artwork doesn't match anything in the movie it's a close-up of a man's screaming face as he's consumed from within by writhing tendrils But it was such a strong image that it stuck with me for decades even though I never saw the movie.
Anyway, I saw it recently, and of course, there was no way it could live up to that impression stored away by my fevered adolescent brain too bad
