I just came across a site that is announcing that they are in negotiations to get the film officially, finally, released! The site http://www.retromedia.org/ is preparing an edition with all sorts of extra goodies, but apparently there's some dispute as to which version of the film should be the 'main' version on the disc.
(For those people who don't know, there was some footage that was cut or altered in the TV airings over the years, namely a Nazi-flashback sequence showing Nazi scientists dropping human test subjects into vats of the Flesh Eaters. Also the climax was tinted in color.)
Everyone reading this should go to the website and write them, letting them know that you're interested in the film and can't wait to see it released. -

So it's going to be generally available eh? Hmmmm
I can't really say why I want to see this movie again. I saw it in the original release at a local passion pit (drive-in theater). Though I rarely had my head above the dashboard, I saw and heard enough to know it was SciFi junk food.
The Nazi experiment scenes were mildly interesting. All the "test subjects" were female and unclothed. They had a rope tied to their hair by which the resulting skeletons were pulled from the swimming pool where the flesh eaters lived. Pretty tame stuff by today's standards but at the time it was erotic and shocking (or meant to be so).
Like I said, I don't know why I want to see this movie again. Maybe it's similar to seeing the dog throw up some half digested offal. You just have to go over and check it out. ugh.

Uhno. As happens sometimes, this release will not be happening. Apparently, there was a rights issue and Retromedia got the shaft. But, the good news is, someone else who owned the rights will be releasing it, and will be licensing the bonus materials produced by Retromedia for the new disc. At least that's the story right now. So keep an eye out for it. I managed to procure a copy of the DVD and the transfer is a very nice 35mm print in widescreen! And it has a commentary tracka fun little monster movie

I went on Retroflicks.com and they have it on sale for $9.99. And it was a DVD!!! -
