If my memory serves me well, he actually didn't. At the end of the film, everybody involved is gathered in the parlor and arguments ensue over who slept with who (seemingly everyone slept with everyone). During this massive altercation, Clouseau finds himself completely off the mark and totally baffled. With every accusation made, his only reply was a mere "What?", being he had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on. At one point, he even turns and looks directly into the camera with a priceless WTF(?) expression on his face. IMO, the most hilarious scene of the entire film!

That's right. Clouseau was clueless. The remaining household killed the household victims and then they accidentally copped their just deserts from Dreyfus.
