        It was lame. As to why they didn't euthanize it perhaps camels, unlike horses, can eventually heal and become useful again (pure speculation).
      2. Why did the captain kill the camel?
        Two reasons I can think of: the camel was lame and he euthanized it and he was furious the two were killed by the Arabs, and he shot it out of pure hatred and anger.
        Is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

        The camel was left there to die a horrible death. Because it was lame.
        So they euthanized it.

                You know, I'm actually disturbed with myself for never having thought of that! Even if the water supply was low (required to process food), even eating some protein would have had a big benefit.
