Hardy Kruger was nominated as best support at Golden Globes for "The Flight of the Phoenix", in which he gave a memorable performance. But it says in IMDB that he refused the nomination. Anyone know the story behind this?

Hi John,
Hope you don't mind it only took 9 years for a response, but you know how these boards go. Anyway, I don't know for sure, but think it was because he didn't consider his performance worthy of it. Don't feel you have to hurry to respond.

Just a thought here, and I have no backup to justify this, but maybe the reason Kruger turned down the nomination was because of what everyone has just said that he didn't think he sould be singled out for best supporting, when, Borgnine, Attenborough, and others gave just as good a performance as he did
Kind of a prelim to the reason George C Scott turned it down years later. As I recall, Scott said something like, "The only way you can really pick a 'best' actor for a film, is if all five of the men nominated played Patton."
Just an idea
How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.
