Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons

    myce — 18 years ago(June 18, 2007 03:14 AM)

I did only recently discover Captain Scarlet. (It seems that it was never aired in Germany.)
In my copy of the first episode, shortly before the car accident, the color of the whole picture changes several times. I took this to be depicting the Mysterons interfering with the car, since it ended exactly in the moment when the tire blows. But in the second episode, when Scarlet tries to remember the accident, there is no such change in color, the picture appears normal all the time.
So I'm confused now: Is it a voluntary effect, or do I have a bad copy of the first episode?
    Thanks,
    myce

I thought the exact same thing when I first saw this. It must've been intentional, because I saw it too.

Where did the version you saw come from? VCR tape, DVD, some avi file?
Mine was an old VCR tape borrowed from a friend.

VCR tape. I taped it off the SCI FI Channel about ten years ago. Back when they used to have an animation block on weekday mornings. They would show this and Droids everyday.
(Update) I found this clip, which is a snippet of commentary from the pilot episode. So apparently the effect was always there.

Yep, it is indeed deliberate, and is to aid the story telling in showing the car was being affected by other forces. I often wondered that in the past.
