Has anyone read anything about how much Shatner was involved in deciding how Kirk would fight, if at all?

Actually, it was the other thread that got me thinking about this. Did Shatner come up with his own moves or was he directed to fight like he did?

Every time I watch Kirk fight the Gorn (the first part of the combat before Kirk runs off)I start crying tears of laughter.
PS: click also on "An Introduction to Kirk-Fu" which appears directly under the 4 pictures.

I was watching "Ted 2" the other night, and there's a scene at comic con where a guy dressed as Kirk throws a punch, then does a shoulder roll. It looked so much like Kirk's TV moves it was hilarious.
Also funny is Michael Dorn playing a fan dressed up in a cheap Worf costume.

It might have been a nice homage to Shatner if Chris Pine had used some of Shatner's fight moves as Kirk in the reboots. I don't ever recall Pine using the hammy double-fisted whammy.

Similar to a two handed backhand in tennis, I suppose.

He did make a remark that his shirt was ripped again that was quite hilarious and a nice nod to the original series.
