Everytime I see a low cost 'bargin-bin' of DVDs, I cross my fingers and hope to find this. Why is it not out on DVD?!?!

As a guy, and being rather jaded as a result of getting "up there" (39-years-old), the fact that the ending of this movie can bring a tear to my eye (well, actually more than one tear!) is a testament to what a fine, OSCAR-WORTHY performance Lana gave. So much crap is on DVD and this isn't. Cannot fathom that. For that matter, "Portrait in Black" (1960) is another excellent Lana Turner vehicle (with Anthony Quinn and Sandra Dee to increase its prestige) which deserves a DVD release.

You can also find it as a bit torrent on the net if you look for it. That's what I ended up doing. The source material was a tape of a TCM presentation, but since it was the only way to watch it I was more than satisfied.

Video Retro is a bad company. I ordered 4 movies from them several months ago and never received them. I never heard of the other company but hopefully they are better.

WELL friends.madame X and Portrait in Black will both be available as a double bill on DVD in Feb.Saw this in a packed cinema on a double bill with Beau Geste in London,Nov 1966.There really wasn't a dry eye in the house.Grown men were crying into their hankies,a testament not only to Mother Love, but Turner's great performance. As the movies storyline passed through the years so did Lana's actingimprove, and she was probably intimidated at playing a 25 year old at the beginning.Apparently the first half of the movie was cut short because of Bennett's illness and untimely death,so whether certain scenes were planned and then dropped I don't know. Also the family that were left behind weren't seen during the middle segment of the movie which may also have been to do with Bennett's demise.

Bought it this past saturday. Just happened upon it at BJ Wholesale Club. $9.99. A bargain at double the price.
