I own the DVD that has been previously out. I don't suppose a new version would have the important scene that was cut towards the end - (Well, one can hope)
BTW, I saw this movie in the theatre my senior year in H.S. and was blown away. I walked out of the theatre knowing two things:

    1. It was a classic
    2. It would last about a week in the theatres (it was clear that I was about the only one at that show who connected with it)

What an unbelievable film. Has anyone heard anything more about a new Criterion edition?

Yes, I'd be interested to know, too. I just watched it, I'm overwhelmed but I only had an avi file and I would love to own a special edition DVD of the film.

This title deserves the Criterion treatment. If only for the cinematography.
Was it ever confirmed to be an upcoming release?

What's the crucial scene cut from the end? I saw this on TCM, and I'm pretty sure it was the longer, 97 minute version.

Yep and it looks terrific. Ordered it and saw the film for the first time last night on Criterion's Blu-Ray, and it was exceptional. Wonderful film, wonderful Blu-Ray.

I purchased the Criterion DVD for only fifteen bucks at a 50% sale on Criterion titles at a local Barnes & Noble in Central New Jersey.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
