There are many roles Vivien Leigh should have done on screen. Not only Bathsheba, but she would have been terrific as Daisy Miller. Think what that would have been like with her as Daisy and Laurence Olivier, Edna May Oliver as her mother, directed by George Cukor. It could have been glorious. Instead, we get Cybill Shepherd, whom I like, but she was miscast, directed in a vanity production by Peter Bogdanovich. What a shame. At least we have Vivien as Emma Hamilton, Cleopatra, Mrs. Stone, the woman in Ship of Fools and of course, Scarlett!

Oh man, Vivien would have been TERRIFIC ( and not just because there are obvious similarities between Bathsheba and Scarlett). I think an ideal '40s cast would have Leigh as Bathsheba, Robert Mitchum as Gabriel, Claude Rains as Boldwood, and Cary Grant as Troy.
And having just read Daisy Miller for the first time, I agree she would have been splendid in that as well.
