Does anybody know what the ring worn by Holden in the scene after his little birthday party where he is pondering the new mission is? Is it a military ring. I could never get a good look at it. I wonder if there is a high quality image of it somewhere or he wore it in real life.

As foster1234 pointed out, it's likely his West Point class ring. Colonel Frederick was a graduate of West Point.
