First of all Ben Stiller sucks. He's a horrible actor and he's not funny in the slightest. Secondly, I hate all these new-fangled remakes, but I think Lane and Broderick should remake this one. They were brilliant on stage as Felix and Oscar. And if it were to be remade, that'd be the only way to go.

Why does every classic or near-classic film have this useless thread?
I obviously DO NOT condone re-making perfectly good classic films. Look what happened when Disney/ABC tried to re-do "Brian's Song." Ditto for last year's "Flight of the Phoenix."
At best, a re-make will be a hit for possibly a week, until it is pushed off the best-seller list by the latest "Scary Movie" sequel.
At worst, a re-make would be the only version younger people see, and they would dismiss the original because the pale re-make did not captivate them. -

It might not be total crap. But it won't be as good as Matthau and Lemmon. Granted the original wasn't flawless, but it pretty much classical. But as for Oscar Madison I would get either Eddie Murphy, Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Romano, Ron Livingston, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler or Jonathan Silverman.
As Felix I would get Don Cheadle, Tim Meadows, Paul Giamatti, Matthew Broderick, Tim Roth, Dana Carvey, John Stewart, or Ed Norton. I don't care about the pairings, just as the two actors are around the same.

Steve Martin and Bill Murray would have been wonderful - ten or fifteen years ago. They're far too old now. Recently divorced men in mid-life crisis is sad/funny. Approaching retirement age it's pathetic.
Felix:
Steve Carell
Adam Sandler
Oscar:
Kevin James
David Koechner
It may sound gay, but casting would rely not just on type and talent, but on chemistry between the actors. That would require screen-tests.
You know me. I'm just like you. It's two in the morning and I don't know nobody. -

Nice Casting job. I could see Koechner as Oscar. And Carell as Felix would be hilarious. I could see him in that cafe scene making up some strange sound.

I guess it's pointless, I mean the original pretty much captured the play beautifully and the Matthau and Lemmon were perfect.

Why not The Really Odd Couple? You could have a Hezbollah guy sharing an apartment with a guy from the Israeli Army.

Every time they make a remake, you spend all the time watching it mentally comparing it to the original. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Is that a joke?
Why does Hollywood seem intent on destroying it's heritage? We all know modern films are pretty much inconsequential anyway, at least leave the classics alone. The only excuse for a re-make is if the original director feels that the film could have been improved with extra resources or for some reason the finished picture wasn't the planned final cut.
'The Odd Couple' couldn't be improved anyway. -

The Odd Couple should not be remade! Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson wouuld be terrible casting choices. But if I had a choice, how about David Hyde Pierce as Felix, his character Niles Crane on Frasier was kind of similar to Felix Unger. Other people on this thread have suggested Bill Murray as Oscar, but I think he is a little old for that role. Jane Leeves could be one of the Pigeon Sisters. Kelsey Grammer Oscar Madison.

"I think it could be a pretty good vehicle for Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. At least Ben Stiller as Felix."
Hell no! What are you, a hollywood exec? Listen, if you want to make a good comedy write it, you don't need to rehash old classics. -

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are not bad actors, but they would not work in a remake of this movie. If they do a remake, they'll probably end up using Lane and Broderick.

Well this is a play that has been performed by MANY different actors over the years, not to mention a very popular TV show. I'm guessing if you ask the majority of people they will tell you that the odd couple stars Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Plays like this I really think of as something like Shakespeare, its always interesting to see different interpretations of the same material.
I've always thought that Shatner and Nimoy should do a version of the Odd Couple.
