Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Party

I wonder if anybody can help The scene at the dining table has some very clear similarities to the restaurant scene in Jacques Tati's PLAYTIME, however that film was only released just four months before THE PARTY. I know Blake Edwards was heavily influenced by Tati and PLAYTIME was a very long shoot (across a three year period between 1964 and 1967).
Therefore I can only surmise that Edwards may have seen early footage of the Tati film and drew his inspiration from it. Could anyone confirm this or offer an alternative explanation? Thanks.

Can't be absolutely confirmed, but the Tati influence is beyond obvious
