Thanks. I was actually coming here to see if anyone knew who he was.

The character's name was Levinson and was played by Steve Franken. I reckon a good actor for that role in the remake should be played by Steve Carell ['40 year old virgin', 'Bewitched' and 'Bruce Almighty.' Dead brilliant guy. Loved his scene in 'Bruce Almighty' when Bruce was 'controlling' his speech on air.
      Long live Peter!

He may be best known for playing the spoiled rich teenager 'Chatsworth Osborne Jr.' in the Dobie Gillis TV series.

I saw this guy in an episode of Bewitched.
This guy was such an asset to this movie. His hilarious mannerisms were spot on, he hardly had any lines, i think, just the drink offer at the beginning (vodka and scotch, sir?) ,and, "get the guitar"
              I just looked him up he's Al Franken's cousin.huh..

He also played a drunk sailor earlier in The Americanization of Emily. Blake Edwards Must have seen this, his wife Julie Andrews was the star.

The movie may have headlined Peter Sellers, but this guy stole every scene he was in. He should have been listed as a co-star.
                  Go ahead, make my day.

Thanks for these posts!!! I was hoping someone would know his name. I'm assuming he was uncredited because he didn't talk. I love when he was forced to "put a cork in it" after pouring the wine! He was a real snot-rag in Dobie Gillis and is very diverse. Now I get to look up his other works, so well done.

Steven Franken was hilarious. I kept looking forward to his scenes so I could see him down another drink.

I agree that Steve Franken stole every scene he was in.
His acting drunk was sheer screen magic. His face was deadpan for the most part, and he had little or no lines of dialogue, but his screen presence was absolutely spot-on!
Some of the funniest bits were his interactions with the head waiter, and the number of times that he was throttled by his boss, in and out of the kitchen.
Also, later, as he gets progressively drunker and drunker, he crosses the pool area, and doesn't even realize that he's walking through the water.
                        HA HA
But, he does get to smooch with the drunken blonde babe - just before she passes out, and slips into the mass of suds!!
I agree with another poster, that he played an absolute 'nasty piece of work' as Chadswoth Osbourne Jr. in "Dobie Gillis". ('That's "Dobie" with a "B".')
Steve also had a small supporting role as an ill-fated robot technician in "Westworld" with Yul Brynner.
                        🙂

I had forgotten that Steve Franken was in "Westworld." I love that film!
He was one of the most prolific actors in '60s and '70s television one of those faces you see constantly, but can't quite place a name to it. "You know:
                          That
                          guy!"
Often these supporting players don't get the credit they deserve, but doing standout work when your co-stars are the likes of Peter Sellers is a major feat.

I can't believe no one has mentioned that P. J. Downing's waiter in
                              Who's Harry Crumb
seems to be channeling the waiter in
                              The Party
. Both of them do a terrific job, but I can't find the name of the actor in the latter.
