Not sure if this was mentioned, but on the cover of its later releases (VHS & DVD), it shows Heston kneeling before the Statue of Liberty.

It was. However later releases of the DVD and Blu-ray used different images:

it's like the menu section of barton fink in the DVD showing… a big spoiler… it's so dumb that these studios assume, oh well, it's been out, no big deal…

you can also blame a lot of the former DVD and VHS and poster artwork for showing the Ms Liberty on the covers… that always blew me away…
