think and. did your opinion CHANGE as the years went by?
    Me:
1)Parents took me to see this when I was little (!!) , original release when on vacation in Canada. I was really too young to understand what was happening. I only remember one thing: THE BLOOD ON THE SIDEWALK AFTER TERRY JUMPED! Freaked me out a bit but I loved horror movies at a very young age so no big whoop.
    2) Second time; Junior High School age. CBS Late Movie circa 1976/1977 . Understood it fully and liked it a lot. Did not find it scary however.
    3) College age 1980s / video rental era. Came to appreciate it as a "great film" taking a back seat to being a "great HORROR film". Like Twix candy bar it's 2 treats in one!
    4) DVD era. Adulthood. A classic and a true "movie therapy" movie in my library. You know- a movie that puts you in a good mood when you are not feeling good about life. A movie that makes you feel better when sick in bed with a flu. A movie that just becomes a comfy blanket anytime the opening credits begin on a rainy Sunday afternoon. A movie you could watch 20,000 times..plus.
    OK- Next.
"In every dimension , there's another YOU!"

I was a kid, maybe 10 years old and it was showing on TV during October. I didn't know what it was, just kind of caught in on it,and was totally fascinated. I didn't really understand what all was going on, but I remember that it was still on when I walked over to my friend's house and her aunt was watching and saying "Oh! Rosemary's Baby is on!"
Years later, I watched it and fell in love with it. I've watched it many times and own the bluray of it.
I find it very scary, as I believe that people do try to do this kind of thing, like worship Satan and all.
It was great and I've made my kids watch it when they were old enough and they all loved it too.
I bought the book and loved it too.
I guess I'll have to watch it this weekend!

Yesterday. Honestly pretty mind blowing. A lot of important dialogue and more disturbing than I thought it would be. Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown are both prime examples of how to make a film - in my opinion.

I was about 9 11 when I became aware of the movie, but didnt get to see it until the mid-90s (on Easter, no less) via regular cable TV. It was clearly edited on a TBS type station and it seem to run for hours with commercials. I read the novel shortly after that, then listened to an unabridged version via books on tape. Someone finally got me a VHS copy (which I still have) and I was able to see it uncut. I do own the DVD, but I have to say theres someone perfectly retro about the analog pop and hiss of my cassette. I recently found yet another audio version via YouTube, with Minnie sounding comically like Michael Dorsey (Tootsie).
Very similar to the OP, this, to me, is a perfect background movie that really never gets old. Sure, theres some parts that are dated at hell, but I love the idea of all this going down in the middle of NYC. Ive seen it more times that I can remember and will continues to do so for years.

The First time I saw this movie was in 1990. I had just taken a pregnancy test ( it was positive) and I was waiting for my husband to come home from the late shift to tell him the news. I sang the lullaby to my son when he was born

I was 12 years old and went to the video store on a Friday night for the 5 for 5$ special.
The cover intrigued me so I grabbed it not knowing what to expect or what it was about.
I sat alone in my den with lights off and became enthralled with how ethereal it all felt.
I remember feeling so panicked and paranoid for Rosemary. The phone booth scene was intense.
In remember being saddened by Rosemary's brief dream where she showing her friends the baby. Only to be destroyed by reality.
During the party scene I was so happy her girlfriends took charge and kicked Guy out. She was so close it felt.
And the elevator scene had me hitting the roof.
The ending? Whoa! I was angry she didn't kill the baby. Now that I'm an adult I understand it's more complex than that.
Guy disgusted me and I cheered when she spat in his face.
To this day this and Alien top my horror list

I tried to get to see this movie when I was 15 in the summer of 68, but they had a strict "adults only" policy at the theater. If I remember correctly, this was before the ratings we know nowRosemary's Baby was rated "M" for "Mature Audiences."
I finally did get to see it at a drive-in during the summer of 69. Wondered what all the fuss was about. It wasn't what I'd call scary, at least, not like the "scary' I was used to (Vincent Price, Hammer films, Dark Shadows, etc.). Very adult in nature and a little boring to a 16 year old! But I love it, now!

My father took me to see it in a theater when it came out in 1968. I was 13. But we were big horror fans. I loved the movie. We lived not far from the Dakota, which somehow made it all seem more realistic, or "homey," or something. My father got a kick out of seeing all the old actors he was familiar with in these bigger-than-life roles. I just loved the whole thing. And I have loved it ever since. I've watched it more times than I can count. I could watch it without the sound and recite the dialogue. Not bragging it's more like confessing.

I finished it about ten minutes ago I can't even fnd the words to describe how I'm feeling right now. It has to be one of the most gut-wrenching, emotionally devastating movies I've ever seen. I rated it 10/10, but I don't know if I'll be rewatching it any time soon.

The phone booth scene always breaks my heart.
Something about the way Ro tells Dr. Hill's secretary "Tell him to call me hmm?" Kills me.
Little stuff like that makes it so good.

I saw it on TV in the '80s. I was just out of college. I had seen ads for the film when it first came out, and I read the novel when I was twelve and loved it. I found it fascinating rather than scary. I remember when they showed her buying more books in Samuel Weiser's shop (a scene that is not in the novel) I said "Well, she went to the right place!" Weiser Antiquarian Books is still the right place. And I bet people come in and ask about

I was 18 when I saw it in the theater downtown. I'd read the novel several times and recall being very pleased by how book and movie matched.
Since then, I've watched it whenever it aired, whether uncut or on network TV. In fact, I'm watching it right now, enjoying it even if I have to put up with commercials.
I have a "Century Film" list, and this is one of many films I've seen 100 times or more. In this case, many more times than 100! I imagine that I will continue watching it whenever I can.
I'm hoping to round up my Ira Levin novels for another visit: "Rosemary's Baby", "The Stepford Wives", and "The Boys from Brazil". Sadly, at my age and state of health, I'm going to be parting with many of my beloved books, trying to find new homes for them. My film library also will be moving on. sigh

I watched it three years ago while I was home alone. Other than the very end, I wasn't really scared by it but I loved it's haunting atmosphere.

                                Cool thread.
First time I 'watched' it was last month (Nov. 2016) on the Sundance ch. I had fallen asleep with like 40 mins left and woke up at the ending where rosemarry is walking into the room full of people. I turned it off right away because i didnt want to see the conclusion of the film since I didn't see all of it.
I ended up buying the criterion blu ray and watched it last night (without falling asleep).. and really liked it. I'm watching the supplements right now. The movie seems to be very hypnotic, I don't know.. something about it.
