This vs. The Sting?

Butch, by a mile, for me.
Both great films, but I LOVE Butch.
IMHO the dynamic in The Sting didn't work - Redford was way too old for that role and Newman a tad too young.
Maybe had I not already seen Butch I could have bought their dynamic in Sting, but they worked way better as contemporaries here than as mentor and student.
Plus, good as The Sting is, Butch is such a beautifully shot and made film.
I get that it is entirely subjective, and my experience of being there too see them at the time, just, colours my opinion, but I don't see how anyone can think Sting a better film. Not saying they are wrong, simply from my perspective.
But, while I know and enjoy The Sting, it doesn't resonate with me all that much, whereas, were I stranded on a desert island, I could watch Butch in my head forever.
The Sting is a well made, clever film, but that's it, for me. it has no resonance and, once you've seen it, its kind of done. Nothing wrong with that, but for me Butch actually speaks about an era, and life itself. The Sting is just a clever yarn.
I watch and enjoy The Sting, but I keep coming back to Butch, and every time I laugh, and cry my eyes out! -

I think Butch Cassidy is clearly the better film.
The Sting received the big Oscars that should have gone to Butch Cassidy.
I liked Midnight Cowboy but it should never have won Best Picture and Best Director. -

Butch and Sundance has an epic chase scene that is so underrated.
All everyone thinks about is cars for them.
But this one is so cool at the way it goes on for a couple of days with the Super Posse first getting out of the train (A great set up at tense suspense before they do with that scene.) then with the end at how Butch outsmarting them at getting away without the same old shootout.

I’d say The Sting is probably the better movie overall, this one lags in the last part when they get to Bolivia. But Butch Cassidy is still my favourite that I’d rather rewatch. It also has one of the best final lines in movie history. And of course, the iconic song “raindrops are falling on my head” which was perfect for a New Hollywood/revisionist western.
It’s too bad Redford and Newman couldn’t do the planned third film together.

Agreed.
Newman said on Jay Leno they were looking into it.
A clickbait claims that Redford didn't like working with Newman.
Take of that what you will.
I dunno why they didn't do a third.
Perhaps they just never got a good enough buddy script for it?
