      That's where the film ends.
I've often wondered if she's found the next morning, and what happens to her son, etc.

You obviously have seen the cut version.
Madam Fornau discovered Luis in the attic with a decomposing corpse that Luis pieced together using parts of all the girls that he murdered. He was so frustrated with sexual oppression that he was revealed as the murderer, and wanted to create a composite "doll" of the the girls after he took their lives. Was repeated(?) in
        Juan Piquer Simon's Pieces (1983)
        .
I'm not surprised that previous posts have never referenced a corpse in this scene, being that there was a lot of edited-down versions (mainly the whipping / slasher / adult themed scenes). Original uncut pal running times range from 99 minutes or more, I believe. I have yet to watch the new USA Bluray, as I'm as of now waiting for 2 copies of it to arrive in the mail. The Bluray is Region A and has 2 versions- a short one and also a long "international cut", and I've heard they are brilliant at 1080p mastered PQ. Oh yes- Love this film! Like a beautiful period piece and in some ways as equally as stylish Argento's Suspiria.

Here is the USA Blu ray. It has a short version and a long version. Region A only. Grab it!
