Weird, I'd just finished watching the Elvira version of the movie and assumed the cut scenes were to remove sex or to trim the running time it's obvious some scenes are missing but not too hard to guess what they involve.

Here are a list of edits/cuts made to the Spanish version of "La Residencia" (that bootleg widescreen DVD doing the rounds). These scenes are included in the English Language VHS version "The Finishing School (La Residencia)":
The whole credit sequence is the English credits and the lettering is in red as opposed to the Spanish print in blue. The English credits are intact and are not missing a number of frames like the Spanish DVD, which jumps at crucial moments during the main theme.
The notorious whipping sequence is missing the moment where Madam Fourneau kisses the whipped girls back and tells her "I'm sorry Cadre, get some sleep. I know I won't."
A shot is missing from the scene where Luis meets the girl in the boiler room and an unseen figure passes outside the locked door. Girl: "Who was that?" Luis" "I don't know." (Probably lost due to print damage at change of reels).
The note the girl reads in the bathroom is in English. This was obviously shot at the time of production for the hands in both versions are the same and hold the same keys.
The sequence in which Irene dries Teres'a hands (after she has been gardening) fades into a night shot of the house exterior, completely eliminating the longer 'stroking' wipes/caresses before the scene ends.
When the girls take their showers the 'whipped girl' Catherine pulls her smock down and stands nude before Madam Fourneau. Eliminated are a couple of slow zoom and lingering closeups of both women's reactions, and also the moans on the soundtrack.
The notorious 'sewing scene' is clipped of a copuple of lascivious mouth and lip close-up's and a shot where a needle is being threaded. Note the Spanish version plays out with none of the dubbed over groans and moans that are heard in the English version.
A close-up of Madam Fourneau kissing her son Luis on the lips has been jettisoned.
Following this, in the sequence where Teresa is 'tortured' by the three girls in the cellar, a couple of shots of dialogue are missing (print damage?) and one scene in the English version is the same dialogue but a completely different camera angle. A reaction shot from both tormentor and victim have also been excised.
Later, psychologically rattled by Irene's insurrection, Madam Fourneau fumbles in a dictation class. A shot is missing (print damage?).
The End credits in English use a yellow font.
As for the film's continuity, that seems fairly straight forward, there is no need to have everything 'explained'. Given that the film was shot with an international cast and then dubbed into a number of foreign market languages, I personally prefer the English version any day over the Spanish version. All of the actors in this film were dubbed, including those who delivered their lines in English, making it a bit silly for everyone to harken so longingly for the 'Original' Spanish version. If you want that version, you will more than likely get a censored version, evidenced by the above list of scenes not present in the Spanish Language DVD.

Thank you so much. I had ordered the Spanish version from Argentina, which got lost in U.S. mail, so now I will buy this Elvira DVD. Although I understand it has annoying fade outs, I assume it is still better than the Spanish version.

Ok, so just to be clear.WHICH version SHOWS these missing scenes ?
I am guessing that every version I have found on the internet (both the Elvira one and the one which is posted on YouTube) must be the Spanish ones because they are both missing the moment where Madame Fourneau kisses the girl's bloodied back after she has been whipped.
Where can I find a copy of the movie that does NOT have these cuts/SHOWS the missing scenes you've listed ?
I want to make sure I find the most authentic copy possible, that's all !

I am also looking for a copy of the original English version. There is a DVD from Movies Unlimited listed at 16.99, but I am unwilling to buy because it does not state which version of the film is on this DVD.

Actually, the uncut version IS the one posted on Youtube. All of the described scenes are in that version, including the kiss after the whipping scene. The print is nice too, and probably the longest version available..

Ahh I have the bootleg version that's going aroundIt's in English tho
Gah I'm SO disappointed, really really want to see the cut scenes (especially the kissing back scene). Grrr, I can't find anyone selling the VHS version & all the other versions seem to be either the heavily cut one or the widescreen one which is obviously still missing scenes
If anyone has it could they send it to those people that do the VHS to DVD conversion & upload it?? I think this film deserves to be seen in it's full. I'm sure lots of people will appreciate it
If I do end up coming across the VHS version with all those cut scenes in it, then I will definitely get it converted to DVD & uploaded on the net. -

I have just purchased a pretty complete version on dvd from SINISTER CINEMA. It has all of the scenes intact, minus the major one mentioned above. Perhaps we'll never see how Luis is rescued. This scene really does appear to be lost.
