's profile. See what happens? Anyway, the staff doesn't feel like making the leap from the 15-year-old software to something that is completely new.

The movie board they were posted on has long since been removed.

It wasn't entirely removed, the title name changed.

AH! Is this the reason? I know someone who has explained this issue and it can be fixed! From the way that's acting, it's because the archives were being saved to another server and the harvesting server was a harvester-like something called cluster resourcesthis isn't that bad of an issue actually! I'll write back and get more details for you.
But software doesn't crumble, this is human error

There are many reasons, but Mr. Needham only gives us summaries and vague idea. Multiple users have told him that he owes us at least a little more detail, but he only budges a piece at a time.

I posted another example like yours to the new 2.0 forum and stated it was an oddity but I know what's causing it. But let me get back to you on this. I have more info.
I also want to outline other issues regarding the trolls, a possibility that would only mean a temporary shut down and cleaning process and other technicalities. I'll working on that. Just have to hear back from someone.

You're wrong I'm afraid, it's nothing to do with glitches, they could be easily fixed. The dead links on the profile you linked to, are from movies that were listed as 'in production' but somehow never were released and IMDb has deleted those pages. That's why you only see the tt number. IMDb I'm sure could have easily fixed the glitch that caused endless double and triple posting for many years, but never bothered.
I'm sure they could update the boards software and migrate the old threads,
                if
they had the will to. But they seem to want to throw it all away. Dealing with god knows how many petty abuse reports a day, probably helped to kill IMDb's admins enthusiasm to monitor the boards.
I can't really understand what's behind this. I'm guessing they probably have some kind of deal with Facebook, which could be why they added the 'Sign in with Facebook' link as the first option to log in to IMDb. They might get a cut of the huge ad-generated revenue from FB for the traffic they send their way and through logging into GetSatisfaction. I suspect that is making a big enough profit and the hits they get from people just Googling a movie title and looking up a trailer, that they are thinking why bother with all this "community" nonsense!? We will have to wait and see if this blows up in their faces, it's sure about to all blow up in ours, and the connections people have made on this site for 15+ years are about to be destroyed. All that will be left is a faceless database where nobody can communicate with anybody else.
You never backed away from anything in your life! Now fight!

That's another issue and at which Col Needham hinted.

                  Which is a bit annoying.
