I'm a huge movie fan (which is why I like IMDB) and, at age 51, I have to say that this movie has stuck with me in ways very few have.
I realize it's not a totally accurate version, but I think using the traditional story in this way works. The actors do more with a glance in this movie than many today can do with the entire two hours. You can feel the hurt.
The cast is excellent, both in talent and in representing the particular part. Timothy Dalton in this will forever be one of my favorite performances.
The musical score is one of the best ever. It adds to the drama and showcases the haunting aspects of it.
    Rachel

If you like Dalton in this, then watch The Lion In Winter. A truly excellent film. Dalton is fine in that too.

and his Rochester in Jane Eyre, which I think was a PBS series.
