                            My grandmother had Alzheimer's. She didn't know who I was half the time. Very sad.

                                  My grandmother had it. I lived with her for three years. By the third year her short-term memory was shot to hell: no longer could she find her favorite channels on the TV remote. But she was coherent and knew who everyone was. She kept having strokes, is what did her in.

                                          Thalassemia. It's an anemic condition some Italians are born with. I know Greeks that have it also. It wreaks havoc when you get older.
