Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — McMillan & Wife

I was watching some old "MacMillan & Wife" episodes on DVD. I forgot how cute Susan St. James was in those days. I think I had a slight crush on her in the 70's.

I don't blame you. I've re-disovered a similar crush from watching the DVDs.

Concur completely. Actually I have to admit this show started a lifetime of infatuation with her.

I'm watching "Husbands, Wives, and Killers" (Season 1, Episode 3) where she and Mac are dressed in outfits for a costume ball. She is wearing a cat outfit with a long tail and sheer black stockings all the way up to her hips. Yowza!

I am watching some of the old shows on Netflix and the only reason I put myself thru it is Susan/Sally's appeal. I don't remember the plotting, dialogue and even some of the acting being so lame but it must have been my teen age hormones responding to Ms Saint James.

See if you can catch her as "Charlie" in the 60's series "It Takes a Thief" starring Robert Wagner. She guested on it 5 or 6 times, I think and was even cuter than here.

Watching the episodes now on COZI-TV you are all correct, 40+ years later she really looks cute, sexy, pretty you name it. there's a certain naturalness o her looks, nowadays were inundated with the "Real Housewives" and the fake "beauty" they have.

Susan Saint James was my first crush I think. I loved the show which I got to watch with wet hair every week (that it was on) having just taken my bath or shower. I totally felt like I was getting away with something getting to watch such a sexy show. They were always drinking booze and making suggestive jokes and going to bed. Very hot for a kid from a conservative church-going family.
I've always loved that shaggy haircut she had in the first season or two. Love her scratchy voice, too.
Anyway, I'm watching season 5's 'Secrets for Sale.' She's wearing a pinkish flesh colored knitted looking top that appears to be a bit see through. She's definitely braless and I'd swear there's a bit of nipple showing through. Very daring to slip that past the tv censors, or were they getting more relaxed in the seventies? Very nice.

Susan was made to be a TV star - sexy, yet accessible. There's a reason she had a 20+ year career on TV, with three successful series.

Although I must have seen this show occasionally in the '70s, in my early teenage years, I don't remember paying very close attention to it, or to Susan St. James. But now, having just seen her in a couple of first-season episodes (on MeTV), I will
                        definitely
be watching more closely. Yum-yum! 😉

Aw, man, they blew it. I see that in later seasons they got her all painted-up in way too much of that dark '70s-style eyeliner, mascara, whatever it was, and for me that was enough to break the spell. Guess I'll just stick with the first season. ;D
