I think that's something people miss: there's a strong suggestion that she may well have been Carter's daughter as he was shagging his brother's wife. No wonder he takes it so personally.
Otherwise, yeah, it's only in the last decade or so that the porn laws have been relaxed in the UK, and even now many things you could rent at a video store in America are theoretically illegal here. -

Indeed. I have to say the first time I watched it I missed that but since then I haven't. Mind you I would take it very personally anyway if that happened to one of my nieces but Jack did seem to be more like her father on these parts of the film (and he likely was as we know!).
I am writing a long review myself and I have made sure I pointed this out.

The vast irony is that the Obscene Publications Squad (to whom the investigation would have been passed) was disbanded a year or so after the movie was made (in 1971) for being heavily corrupt: they were apparently taking all sorts of backhanders from pornographers and the like. Hodges and the rest of the filmmakers would have known this as they were making the movie, as it was common knowledge at the time that the OPS were largely corrupt. So it's likely that 'Mr Big' would have got off scott-free.
Hardcore pornography was illegal in the UK until the late-1990s, anyway.

Err I beg to differ. Hardcore Pornography is still heavily regulated in many States of America. While titles that we have available here in the UK, for instance Baise moi and Caligula the full version, all which contain hardcore pornography are available to Rent from video stores. However horrors like ' I spit on your grave' are still censored in the UK where in America the censor has a somewhat lenient view of violence but still censors sex scenes. A case in point is that we get the uncut 'basic instinct' and America gets it with the violence left in and the sex scenes trimmed down. I have always the admired the depiction of violence in 'Get Carter',as in real life its brutal,ugly and leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

The girl looks to be 15 or 16 so that makes it 'child pornography'
and that's about as illegal as you can get.
The 'Obscene Publications Squad' no matter how corrupt would have had to move it to the front burner for legal action.
Maybe the film makers were aware the OPS had a bad rep so the they added the under age girl to give it that huge impact so the OPS
could not sweep under the rug and hence Mr Big was in deep sh-t. -

Only pedos like Josh Duggar and R. Kelly could get off to child porn. And I heard of people mentioning the movie "Daisy's Destruction". Please don't look it up.
