Firstjust want to say that I just finished watching the movie and really loved it. Thought it was great.
Question - why did Peter frame Tom by putting the letter in his desk ?? I understand why he killed him - he couldn't risk Tom divulging his secret life - but why plant the letter ?? Tom could have just stayed missing and that would have been better for Peter rather than stirring up things.
Observation - Bree's last name was pronounced as Daniels (with an "S") throughout the movie, but it was listed as Daniel in the closing credits. Seems really odd that an A movie would make this kind of mistake.
    Any thoughts ???

Peter is a sadist. It wasn't enough that Tom's wife suffer through the disappearance and never ending mystery of what happened to her husband. The letter paints him as a serial cheater, a frequenter of call girls, and exercising some pretty kinky sexual appetites.
Peter also plays the tape of Arlyn's murder to Bree. If he had been efficient he would just have killed Bree, but he had to experience Bree's reaction to hearing her friend's horrific death.

OK. Thanks. That does make sense. So I guess he's willing to risk getting caught (leaving the letter and pointing people toward his dark side) in order to satisfy his sadistic cravings. His sadistic needs outweigh his need to not be found out.
        Totally see it now. Thanks.
