how so?
Well he wasnt exactly the type of husband that most women dream of. He was a spoilt, drunken, jealous and abusive youth who many contemporaries found intolerable. He was behind the murder of David Riccio, his wifes Italian secretary, and instead of having him killed privately, the conspirators approached Riccio when he was sitting with Queen, dragged him out and they murdered him in a nearby room (and according to one report two conspirators pointed weapons at Mary who was about six months pregnant). He showed more regard for himself than for others including his wife.

I can't let this comment go without saying: IF you were paying attention at all, you would have known exactly why Mary wanted to marry Lord Darnley [note spelling].
In a pivotal scene Elizabeth points out that Darnley is a member of one of England's oldest Catholic families, and that his claim to the throne is second only to Mary's.
Mary does not want to marry Robert Dudley, the Queen's horsemaster and cast-off lover, even if it means she will receive the deed of succession and eventually become Queen of England. Mary obviously thinks she has a better chance to gain the English throne more quickly by marrying an English nobleman who is also a Catholic, and overthrowing Elizabeth.
And she might have succeeded if Darnley hadn't turned out to be a "spolt, drunken, jealous and abusive youth" who coveted the Scottish crown for himself alone. -

You obviously haven't seen the film.

I had never heard a rumour about Darnley and Riccio being secret lovers, I'm guessing this is cinematic drama as opposed to historical fact???
Also, Lord Darnley's real first name
was
Henry (as was written in the IMDb credits), so why on earth did the other characters keep calling him Harry? Mary referred to him as Henry at least once, so why the confusion?
I thought Timothy Dalton was pretty good, but Glenda Jackson was undeniably the best in this film.

And here I thought 'Harry' was an abbreviated form of 'Harold'.
'Hank' is an abbreviated form of 'Henry'.
Not in the UK.
The real name of Britain's current Prince Harry (he of the naked photos) is Henry. -

Timothy does a wonderful job. Just look how he changes his face when the 'traitors' propose him the plot.
He's evil but he's also a lost child, you feel a little bit sorry for him in the end.
