Which is this considered, especially in Australia?
It was made in Australia, and couldn't have been shot anywhere else, but only one of the main characters is Australian. The rest are British, as is the director, scriptwriter and score writer.

Likely Brits who were there to help fill jobs needed post ww2 period, often attracted by the warm climate, the outdoor lifestyle, and pretty good wages sometimes possible to be earned.

The local film industry barely existed at the time this was made-had been largely dismantled in the period after WW2 due to the major US studios influence-very few films were made here 1950-70 and they were foreign studio productions using US/UK stars (think 'The Sundowners' with Robert Mitchum, Deb Kerr and Peter Ustinov)-things didn't really start to improve with the local industry until the early 70s with large Govt investment in cultural products like films.
