Well to be fair, this show had Radar doing very little police work. The whole thing was just him trying to find the wallet he lost.

I thought the pilot had a certain charm to it.
My problem with it, was that Radar was still something of a childish dumbass. Coming back from war, his character should have been somewhat in the mold of Andy Griffith.
Not knowing history is like being a leaf that doesn't know it's part of a tree.

I don't think it was that bad. It was just a pilot. Pilot episodes usually aren't very good.

Should they have continued the plot from the episode "The Foresight Saga"? Radar's farm failing and the Korean farm hand that the 4077th sponsered and sent to the US to help out?

Being a cop didn't fit his personality.
Why wasn't he a clerk in the police station?
I guess living/working on the farm would have been too boring.
Save a few lives including your own.
Go vegan.

He loved animals so much he should have become an animal rehab person working in some wildlife rescue sanctuary or the like Definitely NOT a cop!!

I think Radar joined the cops to toughen up. Become a man's man. I can see it working, at least having a comedy about Radar being a cop. He just needed a straight-arrow partner.

I don't know Radar as a cop would be a bigger pushover than Enos on The Dukes of Hazzard. Then again, he was very organized and dependable, so maybe not a streetcop but a desk sergeant instead would have suited him better.
