Tommy Lucchese was only 5'1, and if you read about him, he had much in common with Michael besides his height–his steely coldness, innovative business acumen, his native intelligence, etc.
In The Godfather films, when he's in a scene with people (mostly men, because I don't recall him doing this in his scenes with the taller Diane Keaton) taller than he, Pacino does certain physical "tricks" to distract the audience so they're less likely to focus on the height differential, and to keep the audience focused on him. He cocks his head to the side, fiddles with the brim of his hat, slouches a certain way, puts his hands on his hips, hooks thumbs in his belt loops, rocks back on his heels, etc. I've noticed several other actors on the shorter side do the same thing: Robert Fuller, Frank John Hughes, Scott Caan, Robert Blake. -

Nobody… I wouldn't change any single actor from the cast.
Except for The Godfather III, I could had done without Sophia Coppola. But then, again, I could had done without the movie itself.
