Just watch it and make your own opinion the things that can date a film are lousy special effects, predictable plot full of clichs or bad theatrical acting, the film has none.

It's very mild compared to the likes of Goodfellow and Casino. I'd you watched The Sopranos then you'll see that there's some lines and storylines from The Godfather film in there.
Watch it, but don't expect the same rush you got from Casino or other great gangster films. -

I watched it for the first time around two years ago after hearing praises for this film from many of my friends as well as its high rating on all critic sites. I thought it would be a typical gangster film (though I haven't seen any) with lots of action.
But when the film started (it was without subtitles), I realized it was not the type of the film I had expected. It was pure drama with lots and lots of characters that I couldn't get into the movie. So I turned it off after around 40 minutes into the movie. I hated this film.
Then after a year, I grew a bit curious as to what was in this film that made it great. So
I gave it another try and managed to sit through it. It was like an 'okay' movie.
Then I again gave it a 3rd try, but this time with subtitles, and I found myself enjoying a lot from the very first scene to the very last of this film. It has everything required for a great film. It has aged really well as it is still extremely enjoyable after all these years. -

Actually I have seen like the first 30 mins before but that was before I had really seen too many movies. I understood them just fine but idkI'm watching it tonight so hopefully I can get the same experience many of the fans have

It's quality. As a period piece of gangster families, of the early to mid 20th century, it's unparalleled. That said, it's not an action flick. It's about relationships as much as it is about the crime. Easier to just watch than talk about it. Relax, enjoy and take it all in.

If you are interested in film in general, you need to watch this as soon as possible. Whether you like it or not is just a matter of your own preferences and that doesn't mean you have bad taste. It has its lovers and haters. I like Goodfellas better but The Godfather is close as hell.

This film transcends aging but it takes a more mature and experienced audience to appreciate and take in it's overwhelming beauty.
So some may get it the first time around while others need repetitive viewings or time to get it.
You liking it depends on you and your general taste in films. -

This is a masterpiece! Ofcourse it has aged great because there is very few films that have aged as good as this one. All the (deserved) hype surrounding this film shows it and you wouldn't be dissapointed if you decide to see it. ofcourse its from the early 70's so maybe what has aged is purely technical.
Although at the end of the day what's important isn't how a film has aged but if it's good enough (which it is).

I think how it ages is very important as to if I actually like it. Some movies have not aged well and I respect what they did for it's time but I personally don't like the film. However after having seen The Godfather, I can say that this film has aged incredibly.

What type of films do you think have aged well or not? I think it depends on the viewer, I personally know someone who can't watch any film prior to 2000, because they find films from the 20th century boring, even if it's from 1999. There are some who think any b/w films haven't aged well despite a very modern conscious-feel, while others feel like films don't age well if it doesn't have a lot of quick cuts and uses long extensive shots. So, it really depends on the viewer, on what they perceive as 'haven't aged well.'

Perfectly I doubt that I'll be alive by 2072 but if the miracle happens and I'm still around I'll definitely rewatch it once again on its 100th birthday. It's the greatest film ever created in my opinion, and my second personal favorite, only behind The Dark Knight. It's a timeless masterpiece it's 100% worth watching, even if you have doubts I'm sure they'll be gone by the first scene with Marlon Brando.
