I think I do. Most of the people I know are always "safe" and if they get political, it's safe. That ignoring of the truth makes me want to post, shaking people up. Besides, it takes only a few seconds to type in something, and I can't see how I lose. Many times I put these demands I put on myself on others.. I might post something and say "Anyone who doesn't speak up about this is a ****ing fake trendy justice whorior" or lament ****ty art, but I've come to find that people don't want to have discussions.
My "Biden is Worse Than Trump For Left-Wingers" post actually went well, but the one friend I've never had an argument with in the 30 years we've known each other replied with "Anything to get the racist out of the White House" - only to put a smiling racist who did a TON more damage than Trump could ever imagine. Of course, he only responded to some **** I wrote about the favored nations clause and ignored the rest. One friend said "In all the years I've known you, you've been consistent" but one woman (the only "friend" I have on fakebook who I never met) mentioned something benign (pronoun ****) and even asked me a question, I replied with "I'm not going to be overwhelmed by pronouns when Palestinian atrocities are ignored", but she went silent. I gave her a few days and blocked her ass.
It's a way to vent.. I don't think there's anything to lose. If someone unfriends me - big deal, it probably saved me in the long run, not that there's any congregating during COVID. In the past, I thought of my career, but usually would go on anyway, maybe with a little more diplomacy, despite my anger.
Life is short and who cares about angering people or giving people the wrong impression because you aren't willing to preface everything with these safe words or safe terms "I'm not a Trump supporter, but"… As long as you tell the truth, **** the repercussions. I don't use it (my laptop can't handle all the heavy html) except to rant once in a while (like I do here sometimes) and to put out a movie or song. Even if you don't get any "likes", you're still getting it out there, giving something you love a tally and giving it a tiny bit more attention on web browsers for example, or at least reminding people who forgot.
It's amazing how many people will change their tune to win the listeners of someone who isn't even listening.

I use the "unfollow" option quite a lot these days. I hate narcissism in all its forms.
Hey, it's a kind of magic!

I've used that so much, I forgot about a lot of people. I notice there is now a 30-day "rest" which seems like a good idea. But the few music pages I'm subscribed to takes up all the room anyway.

Not intentionally, but I have had arguments and lost friends due to my opinions about movies or politics.

As long as you're sincere… I'm curious about the movie one. Is it over specific movies, or movies in general?

Specific movies, most recently I had some arguments online and got called names and lost friends because I liked the movie Cuties.

This is the closest I get to using social media and I've only alienated those who I wish to never be friends with

I never discuss politics in an open online setting like that. People are much more emotional in the online format than they would otherwise be. Discussions become arguments and not debates and nothing is gained.

Are these strictly online friends or RL friends as well?
As for online "friends", I don't care about alienating them, because they're just strangers to me. Whether or not they agree with my opinions is not my concern. On the other hand, my RL friends already know where I stand on socio-political issues and most of us are like-minded in that regard, so we don't butt heads in opposition very often.
Many of the people on social media tend to be nothing more than a bunch of pseudo-intellectual poseurs who you really wouldn't want to socialize with offline anyway. People online are extremely fickle, so it's best not to waste your time trying to placate them by playing it 'safe'. Don't censor yourself.

All my friends on Facebook are people I've met.. Some classmates I wouldn't consider friends, but the only ones who comment are people I am friends (or family) with, or was friendly with in school.
Most people I know on there play it safe, so this only makes me do the opposite. I'll never talk to most of those people face-to-face (or any other way), so I don't mind pissing off a few people to hopefully say what is on their subconscious minds. I always welcome "debate", but never get it.
However, I have received a handful of private messages saying "You know, I agree with you, but…" usually followed by, "I don't wanna get ****"
I figure I have nothing to lose. In the past, I thought by criticizing both schools of thought would alienate people in the artistic circle, but I'm not going to silence myself for measly dollars - I have to live with myself.
