The Mechanic is my favorite Charles Bronson film.
    I miss Bronson.

I love this movie. I never get tired of it. Probably has to be my favorite Bronson movie and he is one of my all time favorite actors.

The Mechanic is a great example of what action thrillers used to be, back before they just turned into endless explosions, rediculously over the top stunts, and pointless special effects, all served up on a pg-13 platter of non-offensive-to-anyone mediocrity. The Mechanic actually had plot, and character, and tension, and logical story progression, things we just don't see enough of these days. It was an actual film, not just an extended overblown trailer. And while Michael Winner was hardly ever one of the best directors in the world, this is one of his best efforts, cemented by two great central performances from Bronson and Vincent. And I tell ya, I'll take an honest and quality b-movie action thriller like The Mechanic over 99% of what passes for action thrillers these days, because no matter how big the stunts or how loud the explosions, they'll never make up for a lack of real plot and character in my eyes.

I think we can all agree The Mechanic is the best action thriller ever!

Didn't like the movie as much as I enjoyed Violent City, Malachi Papers, or Hard Times, but I certainly like it more than Chato's Land, hahaha!

Hey, don't knock Chato's Land. That is one of Bronson's best films. But if you want a treat, watch Red Sun. It's the best in my opinion.

"The Mechanic" does not suck. It is a tight thriller with a good plot and great actors. I wish Jan Michael Vincent would have done better than he has done. He has done some good stuff outside of "The Mechanic" and had good potential (watch "Tribes" on late night sometime). Bronson is and will always be a classic.

Great movie. The only glaring flaw was the suicidal girl was a terrible actress. That one cost them 2 points in my book otherwise it would have gotten an excellent score. Bronson was excellent and ole Jan Michael wasn't bad. A great twist ending that proved he never entirely let his guard down. People judge it by all the films that came after and not the films that came before it. If you saw it at the time you would have been blown away. It's like the Valachi Papers getting busted because it had the misfortune of being shot at the same time as The Godfather. It was considered a rip off even though it was released in France months before The Godfather premiered. Also The Valachi Papers was a true story.

The 45 minute mark was roughly were it got more interesting and amp'd up.

I agree this movie sucked. for a Charley movie this has to be his worst. He has made plenty of awesome fliks with his hard image, but this just fails in so many ways!

SPOILER* The beginning was definitely slow, which is daring, because the first 5mins of any film should be captivating, but the first two hits were totally confusing, and we don't really find out the relationship with Bronson killing JMV father. But the movie picked up speed quickly, and really sucked me in, I loved it.
