The best thing about this film is the cast. It's fun to watch so many character actors on one plane. Of course, big name Charlie Heston is the Cap'n of this disaster of a disaster flic. I'm not going into why this movie would have been better if they had exploded upon take-offit would have been. What burns me is the James Brolin character. Didn't we have enough lefties spitting on 'Nam vets without creating yet another psychotic, unbalanced, evil-arsed veteran bent on murdering thousands of innocent people for some perceived wrong that only he can understand? I can't begin to count the thousands of vets who hijacked commercial airliners since the politicians lost that war. Ridiculous. Hollywood couldn't make films demonizing the real problems that we faced during that era. Of course, the Hollywood of today only pumps out quality films for the well informed and intelligent public. Yeah, they have evolved splendidly since those early days of the seventies.
Anyway, what guy in their right, or not so right, mind would have wanted to harm Susan Dey? That's not what this 14 year old had on his mind in 1972. Yeah, the Sarge had to be nuts.

You could look at it that way but you can also say this was to show what a pointless war did to some people. At any rate it was a silly harmless movie that was campy in spots. I love the scene with Charleton and Yvette on a swing..too campy!! I love Leslie Uggams when she says "screw you" to Brolin. You can't really take this movie seriously but it is fun to watch.

I remember vets being really upset at this film. Of course it was a minor thing compared to other reasons vets were upset at the time, but I do remember ones I was around being pretty ticked off. That is, this movie being one of the most gratuitous with it.
