On a GSN episode the other morning the question was "Cuckoo_______." The contestant answered "Fran and Ollie." Of course, the obvious reply was "Clock," which the celebrity responded with. But "Fran and Ollie????"

They must have been thinking of the old TV show with puppets called "Kukla, Fran, and Ollie" that ran for several years back in the '50s. Still, the word in play, in this case "cuckoo", is always shown in print on the big board before they attempt to match, so unless this person couldn't read English, that was a very dumb answer, and that was an easy word to match, with, like you said, "clock" being the obvious answer, and "bird" probably being a distant second.

I don't think I've ever seen Gene lose it and react that way ever before.
        His reaction was hilarious!
And that contestant was a blond living up to the dumb blond reputation!
        Damn, I'm good.

I was watching an episode this morning on Buzzr and Gene was the rudest that I've ever seen him be to a blonde male contestant. I don't remember his name or the question, but his answer was "inner tube" which made no sense at all in the context of the question. Gene frowned, turned his back, and half snarled at him in the nastiest voice, "Well, I hope your business does well, because you won't be around here for long if you keep giving answers like that!" There was absolutely no good natured joking to it at all, and the poor guy looked so embarrassed, I felt really sorry for him. Sometimes Gene says things like that in a nicer tone and with a smile, but this time he was just nasty. Must have been because it was a guy, and a very attractive one at that. Maybe Gene felt threatened by his good looks, lol.
It was the most extreme reaction I've ever seen from Gene so far since I've been watching the reruns.

I think Gene is trying to be funny and as I pointed out before in another thread, Gene is unfunny.
Yeah, he shouldn't rub it in when it's a lousy answer but how else should he react? He is being a good natured smart ass.
I guess the network and producers were OK with it because he kept on doing it.
            Damn, I'm good.

I remember that episode. It seems like he got worse about this as time went by.

I remember that inner tube response! It was an unqualified disaster of an answer, though I forget the exact question. For me I think Gene is horrible on this show. A lot of times he thinks he's being funny by reading a sentence in a horribly bad accent to the point I couldn't understand him and he wasn't funny in the least.

I think Gene overall was smug and full of himself.
Like the way he has this tradition of kissing any newer female panel member and makes such a big deal about it.
He tries way too hard to act all suave and cool and funny but the more he tries the worse he gets. He should have just relaxed and been casual and been himself instead of being too cocky.
Take a look at Richard Dawson. That is the way that Gene should have been. Not overdoing it.
                  Damn, I'm good.

It was actually even worse than that. She was trying to think of "Kukla, Fran and Ollie", and not only did she mistake "Cuckoo" for "Kukla", she messed up the rest by saying, "
                    FRIEND
and Ollie" "Cuckoo, Friend and Ollie". Bill Daily absolutely lost it.
