Can't believe the remake has a higher rating.

I watched this and the remake back to back and the original is MUCH better I must say. Slicker production values do not a good movie make and the more recent version just came off as ordinary and soulless while the original is just full of character, creepier and has a more intelligent screenplay and better direction.

I haven't watched the remake in a long time, but I'm surprised to see how many negative reviews this one has on the board. It feels very realistic as though we're watching it all unfold right before our eyes. It is a pretty good movie and feels very authentic as though it were something that could actually happen. I don't see why people seem to hate it.

Soulless and ordinary, are descriptions that hit the nail on the head. Aside from Olyphant at the dedicated sheriff, I had trouble sympathising with our leads in the remake. Judy just came off wooden, and Russell and Becca lacked the depth and development for me to feel sorry for them when they died. While I did feel a twinge of sadness for the former, I didn't feel anything when Becca died. She just felt like a "redshirt" in their gang. Whereas Lynn Lowry is often praised for her subtle, but hard hitting last moments in the original. Hell, I actually cried when Judy was dying.
