Me too, I was surprised I liked it so much, The original is one of my favorite films (Dawn of the Dead). I watched the first 10 minutes of the film (remake) on that USA special commercial and it convinced me to go and see the film. It has some flaws, but all and all a great popcorn film.
Did you see that piece of crap, 'remake', they call 'Day of the Dead'? It's actually one of the worse films I've ever had the displeasure of watching. I, sincerely, doubt that this remake will sink to the level of that film.
Here's hoping "The Crazies" remake is as fun as the "Dawn" remake!I must be gone and live, or stay and die -

It looks like "The Crazies" remake might be taking a lot of cues from the "Dawn" remake, actually:

I thought it was interesting that the very first thing the reviewer mentions is that the movie opens with a Johnny Cash song, almost like an homage to the "Dawn" remake that opened the same way.
And the 4 out of 5 stars rating is certainly encouraging as well! -

You're thinking DAY of the dead, which did go straight to video. This thread is referring to DAWN of the dead which was a pretty big movie.
Anyway, I just got back from seeing it and really enjoyed it. -

I haven't seen the remake at the moment, but either way, a lot of remakes from campy movies in the 70's in particular usually end up a LOT better then most remakes.
Although with horror it's a coin toss usually. They can ruin a movie trying to turn it into something else much easier with them seemingly. -

I saw the remake last weekend, I found it to be a bore as compared to the original film. The characters were weak, the story was even thinner and they completely ignored the arc of the first film which included the Army. A HUGE disappointment, because the story had such promise at the beginning of the film and proceeded to fall flat!

Yea I like the original more good remake tho, I was a bit disappointed I told myself this will be a great remake and like i SAID IT WAS GOOD 2010 version lacks fun and better characters. Romero did a better pacing job and the characters had a cheesy but real feel to them long live the classics!!!

I just watched the remake, and I think it's total garbage- 3/10. It's a completely generic, by-the-numbers, predictable horror movie.
The original, otoh, had elements of horror, but what I felt made it brilliant and interesting was seeing how the military is completely unprepared and unable to quarantine a town that is infected. The military is good at fighting wars (well, most of the time), but quarantining a town is not at all what it was designed for. I loved seeing all the bureaucracy that slowed everything down (eg, the voiceprints), the confusion, the soldiers not knowing what their mission was, etc. Great movie, 8/10. The remake completely removes this element.
Also, how about some creativity with the people who go CRAZY? In the original they're not all just killing machines. Remember the lady sweeping the field with her broom?
Goddamnit, I had high hopes for this, but they really screwed the pooch.
