The theme played over the opening credits is "We're in the Money" from the Busby Berkeley movie "Gold Diggers of 1933." It was used in the earlier gangster classic "Bonnie and Clyde." Several artists have recorded the song including Dick Powell. One of the hit versions was recorded by Pee Wee Russell. Most of the recordings are available on Amazon.

There is a second musical format for the movie "Dillinger" that plays an instumental during the opening credits.I have been trying to find the name of this song.It is also heard throughout the movie. I am not referring to the song"We're in the money".Does anyone know what the name of this instrumental is?

Possibly, it's "Gospel Ship," first issued on record by the original Carter Family, later sung by Joan Baez on one of her early albums. There is a chorus added by the guitarist in the movie; otherwise, the style and song is identical to the ones recorded by the Carter Family and Joan Baez. "Gospel Ship" is an old Baptist hymn.

Loran Records has the soundtrack for sale for $6.00 on vinyl only at the following website: http://www.loranrecords.com/soundtrack.html Another site has it listed on LP as MCA-360 but I'm not sure how to go about ordering it from them. You may want to check it out: http://legolas.mdh.se/~dat95jed/soundtracks.htm Apparently it has never been released on CD. If I found more information on it, I'll let you know. Ken

There are vintage recordings of it on iTunes.
