      Yup.
It was part of the trend of 70’s disaster movies.
AirPort, as you mention, Poseidon and Towering Inferno.
Perhaps Black Sunday though that is more terrorism based.
I was expecting something better but I guess the practical effects had their limitations for the time and what else they could have done differently for a story, I dunno.
Yeah, we have to get some background on the characters, bad and good, and follow their adventures through the quake.
Other than that what else can they do differently.
I still agree with your review.
Here is the elevator scene with the animated blood splatter which looks too fake.
Would there have even been blood at all?
I would think it would be mostly internal bleeding.
As bad as it looks I can forgive it since it’s pre CGI.
They did what with they had.
Unless rigging everyone with squibs would have been a better effect.
Watching the bolts come loose brings up another thing I hate in movies.
And that is the failure of hardware.
Nuts and bolts are threaded and super tight and don’t come apart as easily as ripped paper.
      As seen in:
      War of the Roses
      Speed in the elevator scene.

So bad. I think that ended the 70's disaster cycle of films although I know The Swarm had been credited for doing so although I liked that a lot. Of course, when CGI finally improved so much, they had to restart the genre for more ka-ching! I even made a list on that.
