It has one or two laugh out loud moments, but most of it is just chuckle worthy. It's more of a satire than a comedy.

I stand by my response 2 years ago. This is one of the funniest movies of all time. Anyone who doesn't agree has a poor sense of humor. It's not your faults. True sense of humor requires wisdom, thoughtfulness, and perspective. Most of you don't have this. I'd blame your parents.

It is a good comedy but more than that a very enjoyable film, satire, parody, call it what you will. That's what makes it one of the best for me.

YF is funny and charming - but could have been so much funnier.
Carry On screaming -the snobs may hate it - but that is brilliant horror comedy

Young Frankenstein
had its moments of great gags and subverting Horror conventions through parody, but for me
Blazing Saddles
did a better job as a comedy and subverting conventions in general.

I'm not sure what the big deal is either, though I definitely enjoyed the film a hundred times more this time round than I did a few years ago. The film is sort of scene by scene, with no timing between the actual scene edits. I feel like I'm watching a feature length series of sketches at some points.
I do think this film is gorgeous to look at, though. Every light has a star on it (I guess they used some filter) and Gene Wilder is absolutely glowing throughout. -

I recon this is miles ahead of Blazing Saddles and hasn't aged like BS has. This films is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny to me and Mel Brooks best film. I honestly didn't expect to laugh so much in this as I watch BS again recently and was disappointed, but YF is even more brilliant than I remember it.

I consider Young Frankenstein one of the best comedies of all time. It is clever, tells a great story that holds up on its own outside of the jokes alone and has great performances, production values and direction. Though there are quite a few movies that I have had more belly laughs from, Young Frankenstein is nearly unbeatable as a great comedy.

Having just rewatched it again for the umpteenth time, it's still one of the greatest comedy films of all time. Full of laughs. Just about every scene has a laugh out loud moment. A classic.
So many stories, so little time.
