Why aren't there comedies like this anymore?

You do have a point about the political correctness. Sad really, because much of the politically incorrect stuff was really social commentary, well maybe not the "Oh Sweet Mystery of Life" part. It's sad when satire needs to be politically correct. Maybe that's why good satire is so seldom seen anymore.

Geeze, ive seen two out of the top fifty and wasnt whole heartedly impressed. Try coopers' camera(also called coopers' christmas) its got a 6.1 on imdb, but i thought it was great. Tucker and dale vs evil wasnt bad either.

I finally checked out Tucker and Dale, it was pretty hilarious, you all are right. More of a Shawn of the Dead vibe to it. A much better parody of the slasher films than those Scary Movie installments that just got so old.

There are plenty comedies like this, ie not very good ones. This was certainly not a bad movie, but it's big time overrated. Almost all of the humor was the type that only pseudo-intellectuals think is funny. Not any laugh out loud funny, which is what most people like. really, there are VERY few truly funny comedies ever made. Meanwhile, there are a lot of great comedy tv shows.

I can understand that there are plenty of people who do not enjoy this type of movie, everybody has their preferences. It would be a very dull world if everyone preferred the same things. Everyone has their own opinion of what constitutes a good comedy.
What's this whole pseudo-intellectual part though? Please explain so I can better understand what you are trying to say about those who don't share your taste in movies. -

He's trying to say that people who want to appear smart like the film. That doesn't really make much sense since the humour in Young Frankenstein is not very witty or cerebral (no pun intended). -

As already mentioned, Political "Correctness" is one reason why. Here's another:
Let's recast it!!!

Comedy at its core requires a certain amount of offense. And half the country has lost the ability to laugh at itself and the other half fears offending them.
Thus comedy uses shock in place of offense and also plays it safe This is pretty much a formula for the death of pre-80s style comedy.
There are always exceptions but so few and far between I can't think of an example at the moment.
"Where you headed?"
"Nowhere special."
"Nowhere special. Always wanted to go there."
