They did do "The Jeffersons on Stage" but to this day I've NEVER come across anyone who has EVER seen it! That was supposed to be their series finale.

They just did episodes of the show on stage, that's all. And who cares about Jesus? Why do you always mention that? Dumb signature mark.

There's quite a few long running shows that were canceled last minute. Good times was pulled mid season and burned off its last episodes over the summer, Married With Children after 11 seasons was dropped by Fox. CBS canceled the Beverly Hillbillies after 9 seasons but it also has a lot to do with the sponsors as well.

CBS was to blame for not informing the cast of the cancellation. Sherman Hemsley said he found out that the show was canceled by reading it in the newspaper. Isabel Sanford heard about the cancellation through her cousin who read about it in the tabloids.

Those "final goodbye" episodes everybody is used to doesn't always happen. A lot of actors and production people were told by the network that their series would continue for another season only to have the rug pulled out from under them two weeks before shooting was to start

Ratings have been going down for a while? Well during the 4th and 5th season the ratings went down but by season 6 it was number 8, and by its 9th season it was number 3! I mean the show was up there with "Dallas" which was the most popular show in the US and pretty big overseas so that says a lot for "The Jeffersons." It wasn't until it's last season when it once again fell back into the 30's in the ratings mainly because it was going up against I believe, "Who's the Boss" just before the finale of the 11th season.
Honestly, a show like "The Jeffersons" could have lasted even longer than it did and the reason is because they kept it simple, it had clever storylines and was funny.
But we did get some closure from the show. The Jeffersons 11 years later moved to the Banks's mansion in Bel-Air. Plus they obviously left NYC sometime before 1995 because they were seen at the couple's therapy meeting in California.

Sorry but the Fresh Prince is not closure for the Jeffersons. Several characters from the Jeffersons were not on there like Tom & Helen Willis, Ralph, Bently, Jenny, Lionel, Charlie, etc.
The Jeffersons on stage DID have a series finale. That's the entire reason they did it!

They played their own characters it's not like they were given different names so yeah it's basically a closure in a way.

Not even close! Most of the characters from the Jeffersons were missing in the Fresh Prince. Plus their appearance was less than 5 minutes! Hardly a one hour series finale which is what they SHOULD have gotten!

I feel bad they got cancelled for nothing and they should of had more scenes then at the end least Florence was shown this time, I would of liked to see what would of happened with their new lives in banks bel air mansion

I don't even like the fact that they appeared on there to begin with. You would need to explain why they are in Bel Air to begin with and want to know where everyone else is.
Anyway, it was CBS that pulled the rug out from under the show. They felt the show had been on long enough and decided to end it. Was the show near the end? Well, some episodes near the end were funny, but I think they were just repeating stuff. For example, the argument the Jeffersons and Willises have in the final season in the one hour episode Sayonara was done a decade before in another hour long episode.

Not sure what they could have done as far as a send-off. George's business goes bankrupt and he and Wheezy move back to Queens, with flashbacks of all the good times they had during the 11 seasons? An episode where they flash forward twenty years, with everyone attending Jessica's wedding? Both pretty lame. I agree that the show and cast could have been treated better by the network, but "The Jeffersons" was hardly a sitcom that needed any type of closure.

Yeah, some shows you can't really send-off too easily. They could've at least done one or two more seasons. Here are some story ideas I would've done if I had worked with them:

                                  1. 12th Season Opener-Jeffersons go to London. Was mentioned in the Atlantic City episode so why not do it?
                                  2. More episodes with Mrs. Van Morris and her grandson (pre-Steve Urkel).
                                  3. Jessica of course.
                                  4. I might have brought back Lionel and Jenny and it could be they decided to reconcile after all.
                                  5. An AIDS episode with Mr. Whittendale's wife, as a result of her getting that blood from that bum in the 11th season opener.
                                  6. Robin makes some more appearances (she was the neighbor in 12C).
                                  7. George has some more battles with Mrs. Cunningham over dry cleaning promotions.
                                  8. George finally opens his 8th cleaning store.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they had brought back Robin. She was a fun character. I've always hated that episode, though. Even was I saw it first run as a kid I thought, "this girl is clearly totally harmless. It's so out of character for Louise to jump all over her just because she's young and free-spirited." The part about Louise admitting that she's changed into an old fuddy duddy didn't ring true, either.

12th Season Opener-Jeffersons go to London.
I like your idea. In fact, it would have been a great way to end the show. A two-part episode where they went to London on vacation. George saves the life of some prince and he is knighted or given an honorary title. He and Louise are allowed to live in a run-down castle. The Willises decide to move in with them as their permanent guests. Meanwhile, George and Louise decide to sell their businesses back in New York or else have Lionel oversee them. They are now going to retire and live the rest of their days in England as Lord and Lady Jefferson. It would have been consistent with the theme of the series how they really moved up in society, a far cry from those days next door to the Bunkers.
Florence could have stayed back in New York but called them and said she and Mr. Bentley were getting married. And the Jeffersons' new maid could be some Cockney girl whose attitude is exactly the same as Florence's was in the early days. It would have brought them all full-circle.
