I think a lot of women have done this at least once, including me. When I go to Goodwill, I see all kinds of candles similar that people get rid of. It is the one gift that if someone comes over and asks where the candle is they gave you, you can say you already burned it

Scented candles are my go to Christmas present for my mom. If I can't think of anything else to give her, I can always give her a candle.

Reminds me of those Wilson Phillips/Vanessa Williams/Mariah Carey/Michael Bolton style 90s music videos which were so accurate. I thought the whole thing was ingenious, right down to the clothing.
