Alec Baldwin's impression is not good, not necessarily funny, and you can tell there is no enjoyment Baldwin gets out of doing it.
Darrell Hammond has the Trump egotistical blowhard thing down- and it never made any sense why Hammond was pushed to the side. Seems like everyone got caught up in the idea of alec baldwin and didn't first wait to see if his impression was any good or not.

They have to realize its not working. I assume the reason they fired Hammond was #NeverTrumpers thought the impression was too fair to Trump who, after all, is "literally Hitler".

Seems like Hammond could just make a recording of the intro on those few times he does the open.
At this point- SNL will probably need to wait for Baldwin to give it up so it saves face-
ironically- trumps tweets may have strengthened Baldwins resolve to keep doing the impression that he doesnt do well-

I agree. angry people are not funny. there should be some sense of fun or joy in a performance.. Alec is just an angry dude who is not fun for anyone watching him.

OP I agree about Baldwin, unfortunately, now that Trump has complained about Baldwin, and he said he would quit if Trump releases his tax returns i'm afraid there's now no chance of anyone replacing him anytime soon.

Alec Baldwin started out really strong as Trump and now it seems like he's just putting on the wig and attacking Trump at every turn.
I saw the cold open this past weekend and I didn't laugh once.

Baldwin's vile "impression" of Trump is ugly and hateful. As others have said, there's no joy or comedy in it. It's simply a vile, angry attack, and it has become very off-putting to watch. Baldwin has become a real dick.
Whereas Hammond.is not only much more talented, but also a class act. He has been loyal to the show for many years, has worn many hats, and he "gets" how to lampoon someone in a fun, ironic way.not a mean-spirited way.
                    Bring back Darrell Hammond.

I suppose to the liberal Killary voting audience, Alec does a fantastic job. But from an objective standpoint, Alec's parody just isn't funny. He looks and sounds nothing like Trump. And SNL always goes for the easiest (read: lamest) jokes about Trump.

I just watched Hammond's impression for the first time and turned it off because it was lackluster, boring and not funny. Baldwin is a caricature of a caricature. I haven't watched SNL for years, but now make it a habit to watch Baldwin to see what inane thing that Trump will do that will be made fun of.

Sometimes, it not about a big, bawdy, over-the-top impression of someone..it's more about getting the subtleties right, and then just let the material of the SKETCH be funny.
Like I had mentioned with Hader's impressions. He always nailed them. But he didn't come across like he was trying too hard (like Baldwin). He got the subtle mannerisms and voice, cadence, etc down, and then let the context of the material and sketch be the funny. The impression itself doesn't always need to be the centerpiece of the joke. If the impression is relatively accurate, it will be funny. But an over-the-top (and mean-spirited) portrayal, driven by hate and anger (like Baldwin's Trump impression).is not only un-funny, it's downright offputting.

Trump was mean-spirited and showed anger and hate throughout his campaign. What goes around comes around.

Uh, sure and Killary was so non-hateful (calling Trump suppoters "deplorables", racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, etc.)

He must be cringing and feeling frustrated that they didn't re-cast him as Chump.

I disagree abit. Baldwin does an over the top caricature nicely. We already have the real Trump, there's no need to a have a facsimile of him. Hammond did a good version as well, so maybe either one, or a Trump-off at some point on screen?
Also the hurt is strong with the Trumpettes in this thread among other places. Relax, you won the election. From your comments it oddly seems like your side lost. Unclench already, let SNL have their bit of fun.
                                      Suprise! Nothing to see here

                                        nclench already,
I'd say that applies more to Baldwin than anyone.
He comes across so angry it's actually quite offputting.
There's a big difference between funand what Baldwin is doing. He's just..sweaty, red-faced angry. Like a vile pig.
