For some reason I never find anyone who does him to be funny.
Though I think Darrel Hammond did a fine and better job of Trump and don't understand why he didn't get the gig.
If it's because he has to announce the show live, then just hand him a mic or have him run backstage to one where he can then do the announcing.
Let me know if I'm on your ignore list.
Thanx! -

Baldwin's "impersonation" is just awful, not funny at all. It was meant to be a hit job on Trump until Killary won the election. It obviously didn't work.

SNL wanted "star power" like they did with Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin. However, Palin had never been impersonated before on SNL. When the previous season ended (2007-2008), Palin was governor of Alaska and not yet a Vice-Presidential candidate.
Trump, however, had already been played on the show by Hammond and Taran Killam. They fired Killam, but could have used Hammond.
Since Baldwin says he doesn't want to do it full-time and since it's obvious SNL is going to be the Trump Hate show for the next 4 years, maybe they can get Hammond to do it again. -

Well, Alec Baldwin in general just seems like a flat out hateful human being. We're talking about a man who has beaten up how many people, photographers, and god knows who else that gets in his way on the streets of NYC and LA? And called his teenage daughter a pig in the answering machine tirade? Embarrassing/verbally abusing Kim Basinger (for whom, he also allegedly hit numerous times) in how many public fights in restaurants in LA when they were married?

Doesn't really matter. Our media has embraced this character and will no doubt be howling at its overall brilliance for the next 3 days. As long as they keep hyping it up with repetitive highlights and praise, SNL will keep doing this skit.
But keep in mind, this is Alec Baldwin. It's only a matter of time until he does something stupidly barbaric in public and everyone goes back to hating him again.- or so the Germans would have us believe

I agree with you, HesterHere.
Alec Baldwin has been cracking me up.
I've never been a viewer of SNL. Watched an episode or clip once in a blue moon but that was it. Now I've been watching faithfully ever since I saw a clip of Alec Baldwin. He's hilarious! I say give the guy an Emmy.

After last night's skit, I have to agree with you.
It seemed like when he was Trump during the election and the debates he was having fun, but last night was downright resentful of Trump winning and it wasn't a very good skit.
I think it's time to hang up the wig. -

I agree with the OP.
Baldwin's a dick, and his "impersonation" of Trump is hateful and offputting.
He obviously hates the manand what he's doing isn't harmless lampooning. It's spiteful and resentful and downright vile. It makes me uncomfortable to even watch his vile, piggish expressions. Alecgo eff yourself, you hateful lowlife. -

Oh my god grow up, as a conservative and someone lenient towards Trump I found it hilarious you're just as diseased as the libs. -

Donald Trump took a break from prepping to be President of the United States by offering some Sunday-morning quarterbacking on this weekends Saturday Night Live - eliciting a prompt response from Alec Baldwin. Hours after Baldwin in SNLs cold open portrayed Trump as a confused President-Elect who was walking back campaign positions and Googling What [] -

I'm sure he hates Trump politically but he doesn't write the jokes.
It's just ironic that an ahole like Baldwin is trying to make someone else look like an ahole. I wonder how he would feel about Trump impersonating Baldwin and all the stupid things he's said and done over the years. -

Agreed. But this Alec Baldwin aka Mr Schweddy himself who can bring life to any skit. Whatever his political and personal foibles he knows how to be funny.
Yesterday's skit was another unfunny, hateful speech possibly right from the mouth of Lorne Michaels!
SNL like the left wing have to accept the loss in the election (
they tried to influence the election and famously lost
)and stop with spewing hate. If this is their grand scheme to win back in four years time, they have learnt nothing from the loss in the election and still live in the bubble! -

Baldwin does everything he can to do the most vile, disgusting, contorted impression possible. He may not "write the lines", but it's clear he is a vile, angry, hateful man.and his "impression" is not lampooning, it is mean-spirited and disrespectful, to put it mildly. I'm trying to figure out at what point in time Baldwin became such a jerk. I think it goes back quite a ways. I think SNL should spoof that vile, hateful phone message he left for his daughter.

His impression is not funny at all. Not even nuanced. It's the most simple basic impersonation one could do.
I thought he was going to cut down on his SNL appearances post-election, per Alec's own statements about wanting to spend more time with his kids on weekends. If he's going to continue all season, count me out. -

Whoever does him long-termI think they (the writers and the performer) just need to approach the impersonation similar to how they approached Obama's. By this I mean, tone down on trying to make fun of the person's APPEARANCE, and instead just try to be accurate. Sometimesan ACCURATE impression is the funniest part. Like when Hader did Alan Alda.it was so SPOT-ON, that whatever he said was hilarious because of it. Be more subtle.try to get the mannerismsbut don't WAY overdo them.and focus more on the content of the sketchmake the material and situation funny. Baldwin tries to put all the focus of the sketch on his impression, rather than playing a character in a larger overall bit.
Baldwin's attempt is SO exaggerated (due to his hate for Trump) that it's not only un-funnybut it's also off-putting. It's just distasteful and mean-spirited. The guy is a dick, and he needs to go home.to his toney apartment in downtown NY, and reevaluate why on Earth he could be so angry.
