Very underwhelming season premiere episode

I agree. The way to spoof politicians is to magnify the crazy or stupid things they say. No parody can ever top the crazy and stupid things Trump says for real, so the comedy falls flat. I did think AB's impression was spot on.

I dont get the hate either. Why continue watching?
I thought the episode was very good. What kept it from being great is the host. When the host contributes nothing special it can't get to that next level of repeat viewings. By no means is Margot Robbie a January Jones host. But any pretty face with passable acting could have filled her shoes.

So the fact that I stated that iwatch the show regularly and commented how much I enjoyed last season left you confused as to why I'm still watching it? What am I supposed to do, after a season of enjoyment say to myself "That was funny. I guess I wont watch the season premiere, though, cause it might not be funny." I usually enjoy SNL and when its crappy & below standard then I dont mind voicing my opinion.
Admittedly, Weekend Update is never funny, and therefore I never watch it.

My initial comment was not directed specifically at you. Like the other poster I feel like there's more regular posters who slam the show every week.
We will just have to agree to disagree on WU. Che is hilarious and Jost can have his moments IMO. I think the writing was great all the way through on the premiere. Robbie just isn't an engaging host.

Ok, fair enough, there are definitely people who spend way more time denegrating a movie or show they dont like than they do discussing something that they do like. And while there's nothing stopping that, its a curious behavior.

Thought Baldwin was fine, but the writing was lacking. There are so many juicy political targets out there, but the writers just failed to go for them. The result was a disappointing, lackluster outing.
The best thing about the show was Larry David, as usual.
Let's hope it's just start of the season rustiness and the writers can pick it up next week.
