I think people are thinking it's creepy because of the age difference of John and Diana, not to mention they were playing characters who were mother and son. I can understand how that would be a little creepy.

Age difference doesn't count, what counts is love. Love doesn't know age difference. Love doesn't know frontiers either. There's nothing creepy about john travolta loving an older woman. I fell in love with an older woman too, so what, what's the deal? why are you guys so prejudiced about something so natural.

i am totally interested in women , not girls, from about age 30 to 43 , it doesn't matter me. I think to get what i want which is a fufilling lasting relationship you need to find women who also want that as well. I'ts not gross or sick. It's me not being particularly impressed by immature girls my own age who i cant i even have a conversation about yeats , or kipling with, without her going "huh?" "what? whos that". Plus not many guys like me are family oriented at this age but i happen to be, settling down with a women who's not just physically appealing but emotionally and mentally, has to be the ultimate package.

In an old Rolling Stone article Travolta claimed he only took the role in Saturday Night Fever after Diana Hyland convinced him to. He didn't believe he could do it until she made him see he was perfect for the role

Hyland won a posthumous Emmy for her role in this movie; Travolta accepted it on her behalf

Not to defend him but Woody Allen didn't adopt Soon Yi. She is Mia Farrow's adopted daughter and he wasn't even married to her, so she wasn't even his stepdaughter or anything. That's why there has never been any legal problems with their relationship (marriage). He's still a creep of course!

The John Travolta-Diana Hyland romance is one of the saddest stories in Hollywood folklore. She did die while he was making SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and Travolta has often mentioned that during the scene by the Brooklyn Bridge with Stephanie, he is thinking of Diana when his eye well up with water. It should also be mentioned that after her death, Hyland won an Emmy for her performance in THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE and Travolta accepted the award for her and was barely able to keep from breaking down onstageI remember it like it was yesterday. Very touching moment.

I find it sad. I read some of his biographies, and he really did love her. I am really sad that she is not alive today.
About the emmys: can someone please find me a video clip of it? I would like to see it.

its fascinating that people need to discuss this,
but we see all the time older guy + younger woman in hollywood films and nobody bats an eye.
                            but a older woman????
                            OH MY!

People are not creeped out because it's a younger guy and older woman. They're creeped out because she played his mom.
