cause this was not Hollywood but based on a book.
also: you can't call that weird religion Christianity. God doesn't like it when people start up their own version of how He should be worshipped. of course they find out too late.

Christianity is about Jesus first, and God, second.

you care confusing Lutherans and Baptists as Christianity. they are part of Christianity but without the first sector of the religion, there would be nothing.
first thing being roman Catholicism. but if you really want to get technical, the first religion was Judiasm. without god there would be no jesus.
God didn't like what the jews were doing so he sent J down to set them straight. throughout his life they created the RC religion. heck, J was only baptized into this religion at the age of 30. a good 29 years and 6 months later than the usual children.

Well, Margaret White would tell you are a sinner plain and simple and to get down on your knees and ask for forgiveness for having been offended.
Then she'd tell you to eat your apple cake!

I'm a Christian & I never felt the film was trying to make Christians look bad.
Because Margaret White is NOT a spokesperson of the Christian religion, nor was she meant to be.
Any religion or set of beliefs can be twisted & warped for one's own evil or mentally~ill views.
Margaret was a selfish, twisted person who used the illusion of being a good Christian to keep control of Carrie.
She is not nutty because she follows Christian belief. She is a nut who just happens to call herself a Christian.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.

Christian fanatics don't need Hollywood's help to look crazy; they do that all on their own.
Further, the movie was based on a novel, so Hollywood has nothing to do with it.
Regarding Sleepy Hollow, you're forgetting that the entire town was Christian and no one there was fanatical. The only person/Christian in that movie that was fanatical was Ichabod's father. So not "all" Hollywood movie Christians are fanatics.

Hollywood, in ruling the world, makes their movies about Christians ruling the world that THEY, Hollywood atheists, actually rule.
it's a game. it's been going a long, long time
the narrow road to Christians is in Hollywood's eyes the wide road.

It was King's depiction of a religious whack job that got emulated.
Margaret White was a mentally ill disturbed woman and that she believed in a sky fairy as saviour only exacerbated her craziness.
