Hi all, with it looking like IMDb is stable for the week,we have to decide what site we all want to move to.

Yes, now it looks as if many people have second thoughts about the new imdb site. It seemed like a viable option.
My problem with reddit is that you can't really have good subcategories. There are also the Criterion forums, though many people say they are very snooty, or the TCM boards. What I'm really looking for is a board that is well-structured.

With those "IMDb 2" sites,I have serious concerns about the security of them, due to them looking like the "give your bank details" E-Mails you get,and also due to IP address being public, which the person running the site could use.
Do you have any concrete reason for these security concerns? Every website that you connect to can see your IP address if they want to, as it is sent with every request (it's part of the internet's design/protocol). Also most, if not all, forum software products allows admins access to this information btw (incl the software running the Fistful of Leone boards, Simple Machines). -

Well
www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=10920.0
has instituted a waiting period to sign up we've delt with spambots and the administrator is quite dilligent.
We have been of course heavily Western and lately Film Noir oriented with quite a few international members over the years.
I'm a moderator there, and you are all welcome to join. -

Hi Mgt,with you saying that the admin is quite dilligent in dealing with spambots, and that someone from this board is one of the mods,I think that this sounds like a good site to move to. How long would the waiting time to sign up be?
Thanks. -

Sounds like a good board, especially if it's moderated. I have two questions. Could there be a monthly Noir thread like here, could there be topics like "Noir vs Neo-Noir" or is everything filed under specific movies?

You can start any new thread you want, Noirs are in Off Topic just start a thread about a film that doesn't already have it's own post and I'll link it to the index, and I've already alerted the Administrator about the demise of IMDb and a possible influx of new members, so have at it.
I know Spike and morrison-dylan-fan are on the Westerns board also so they should like this too. -

Thanks, I'll sign up too. Have to get used to a new site structure. I think I'll keep my name.
Do you think about keeping the monthly threads? Or would you like it better if we start threads under the film titles? Having those monthly threads just kept the discussion going nicely.

Definitely have the monthly threads. Hopefully
mdf
will run it if not I'll pick it up again.
I'll PM all the users on this board to let them know where we are. I'm happy it's moderated.

There is a "rate the last movie you saw" thread but it covers everything, all genres.
You can easily start a "Rate The last Noir" you saw thread, too, but what happens in the "rate the last movie you saw" thread sometimes is that a lively discussion then ensues and it gets fractured and lost once a new film is rated in the same thread.
I end up having to sometimes dig the relevant posts out and create a new thread for the film anyway so its better to maybe do a one line blurb in the Rate The Last Movie you Saw and also create it's own thread if it doesn't have one already. -

I see, so I guess we won't have those monthly threads again. Damn.
I see the "Rate the last movie you saw" thread is long, very long. Things can get lost there.

Yea sure I have no problem with a monthly thread and making it a sticky, but it makes a mess trying to sort it all out later if a film doesn't have a separate thread, especially if you are looking for a particular film with the search feature.
There is also no nest feature, so someone commenting on something they read about two weeks ago is going to appear in the middle of whatever is current being rated/discussed. You almost have to quote the post every time for people to know which post you are answering. -

So, only a week left Any preferences? Anyone?
From the ones I've had a look on/posted on, Fistful-of-Leone is the most active (in terms of noir posts/interest, the main/only reason for me to look for a replacement, heh). It is also quite different in set up as well as atmosphere (to me anyways), but I'm sure we'll fit in there somehow, if anything it IS a well-established movie-lovers board
Anyways, for me, that seems to be the best alternative at this point. -

Yes, I agree and signed up there too, haven't posted yet though. I'm trying to figure it out and get used to the different format. In what way is the atmosphere different to you?

Oh, nothing negative, don't get me wrong.
The userbase is far larger than here (just referring to the Noir board) and quite active, so (first impressions!) it feels 'massive' compared to this, quite secluded and cosy, little corner of IMDb. Just a slight sense of overwhelm really
