Why the hell was jack and Dwan devastated when Kong was finally killed?

Because, he should never have been taken from the island. His death was meaningless and all over greed. Consider too he was the only one of his kind and he was being in effect destroyed by the attack on him. Had he not been taken from the island by Wilson, his destruction would have never happened.

When Kong blows up the flame thrower dudes and Jack yells, that gives me chills every time I see it. This version had people rooting for the gorilla.

Well yeah, they took Kong away from his home, and then killed him when he escaped his cage, yet wasn't even hurting anybody. The only time he actually kills someone is in self-defense. I just watched that part and was thrilled when those idiots died. They were ordered not to harm him, so they got what they deserved.
