haha. in Germany we do have a "graduation dance" as i've mentioned, but it's without dating and all that awkward stuff, it's just the senior classes having a last big bash together with all teachers and HS friends and not so friends at the end of everything, and ours was super fun and super sad and fun and wild and memorable.
American prom from what i know looks always so formal and under constraint, no alcohol (in Germany we can legally drink booze with the age of 18 and beer and wine with the age of 16
), just very boring and superimposed. also very hierarchal?
suck it. -

I went to a pretty affluent school and quite a few people in my year or the year above have died from drugs. Is that normal or is it just a Scottish thing?

I lived in Colombia in the late 90s, lived and hung out with a lot of expats. The North Americans were often surprised at how much more hard drug use was prevalent among the inhabitants of the British Isles, that there were different national cultures of substance abuse, at least back then.

In grade 12 I went out on a school trip to Europe. In Paris, we were in the Moulin Rouge area. Me and two buddies broke curfew - we were near one of the famous red-light districts in history! - and went to a strip club. We paid a fortune to get in, and then my buddy Paul and I each bought a beer, and my buddy Dave bought a Coke. All of the siudden this gorgeous French babe sat down next to me. She asked for me to buy her a drink, I indicated I didn't have much money left, she immediately went back to the wall of the club to sit with the other prostitutes (rightβ¦).
After a little while of smoking and watch the show, we asked for the bill. It was astronomical, Dave's Coke alone was ten bucks. We didn't have the money. Paul and I looked hard at each other, and at the same time made a break for the stairs down and out. Over my shoulder I yelled 'Run, Dave!' We were chased two blocks by two huge Frenchmen who would have easily killed us if they had caught us, but we were 3 skinny and highly-motivated (terrified) high-schoolers. We outran them, made it back to the hotel, got caught coming back in, and were 'grounded' for the rest of the trip.
